Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. At Foti Chiropractic in Milwaukee Wisconsin we treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
Foti Chiropractic in Milwaukee Wisconsin practices a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. We believe in our bodies natural ability to heal and provide treatments to aid that process. We might also recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. This is how Foti Chiropractic is keeping Milwaukeens healthy!
The most common therapeutic procedure performed is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called the “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
Chiropractic adjustment rarely causes discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (as with some forms of exercise) that usually resolves within 12 to 48 hours.
In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment. When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
We assess your health through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine what chiropractic treatment is appropriate or if it is not appropriate. We will readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable for your condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other members of the health care team. We are completely focused on healing your body with the best treatments available.

Beginning March 2009 Foti Chiropractic became Webster Technique Certified
A specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments. This in turn reduces torsion in the uterus, a cause of intra-uterine constraint of the baby and allows for optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth.
Dr. Larry Webster, Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association discovered this technique as a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function for pregnant mothers. In expectant mothers presenting breech, there has been a high reported success rate of the baby turning to the normal vertex position. This technique has been successfully used in women whose babies present transverse and posterior as well. It has also successfully used with twins. Any position of the baby other than ROA may indicate the presence of sacral subluxation and therefore intrauterine constraint. At no time should this technique be interpreted as an obstetric, "breech turning" technique.

Common Questions About Chiropractic
What causes the sound of an adjustment?
Actually, not all adjusting techniques produce the sound associated with "popping knuckles". Some create no sound at all, some a little. Many techniques create the sound of a spinal "release."
What causes the sound of a spinal "release."?
The mystery may have been solved by a British research team that took x-ray movies of people "popping knuckles". The sound appeared to be caused by gas rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints were slightly separated.
Is it bad to "crack" your neck or back a lot?
The desire to pop the neck or back is caused by tension from a jammed or fixated vertebra. The jammed part should be adjusted by a Chiropractor so that the rest of the spinal column will balance and stop being so moveable and noisy.
So I'm not "adjusting" myself?
Cracking or popping your neck gives relief for a while, but soon the urge to pop or crack reappears because the cause or the spinal tension has not been corrected.
Do Chiropractors have medical (M.D.) degrees?
Chiropractors have Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degrees granted from Chiropractic colleges. Chiropractic education and medical education are similar in some respects and different in others, because Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs and medical doctors do not correct the vertebral subluxation complex (misaligned vertebra).
Can I tell if I have a subluxation (misalignment) without consulting a Chiropractor?
Not always. A subluxation is like a dental cavity. You may have it for a long time before symptoms appear, that is why periodic spiral check-ups are so important.
At what age should Chiropractic care begin?
Newborns have received spinal adjustments, especially after difficult or traumatic births. There are cases of infants close to death who were adjusted in hospitals with seemingly miraculous recoveries.
Can I go to a chiropractor only once?
Of course! Once is better than never, but Chiropractic can help in so many ways, why not ask one of the Chiropractors at Foti Chiropractic about your personal spinal care needs?
